Joseph Aumer

Joseph Aumer (born April 18, 1835 in Munich ; † April 28, 1922 there ) was a German orientalist and librarian .

After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1854 , Aumer studied philology and oriental studies . In 1857 he came to the Kgl as an intern . Court and State Library in Munich. In 1866 he cataloged and described the Arabic, Ottoman and Persian manuscripts in the collection ( Catalogus codicum manu scriptorum Bibliothecae Monacensis ). From 1898 to 1909 he was chief librarian there.

In 1806 Aumer was awarded the Order of Saint Michael, Third Class. Three years later, in April 1909, Aumer retired. For his services as senior librarian he was awarded the Cross of Honor of the Order of Ludwig . The librarians Max Koestler and Georg Leidinger succeeded Aumers.

Aumer received letters from Richard Pischel , Max von Pettenkofer , Hartwig Derenbourg , William MacGuckin de Slane and Charles Daremberg . He wrote letters to Karl Zettel , Heinrich Brunn , Konrad Hofmann and Hans Schnorr von Carolsfeld .
