Joseph Beltrami

Joseph Beltrami ( May 15, 1932 - February 24, 2015 ) was a Scottish lawyer of Swiss descent.

Early life and family

He was born in Rutherglen to a Swiss father and a Scottish mother. His father Giuseppe (Joseph) Beltrami ran a fish restaurant on Glasgow Cross in Glasgow . Joseph Beltrami grew up in Glasgow and studied at St Aloysius' College and the University of Glasgow .

Professional career

Beltrami has been involved in several high profile legal cases, including the campaign to release Patrick Meehan. He defended various members of the Glasgow underworld such as Arthur Thompson and Johnny Ramensky in court, and for the first time in history he obtained a pardon in a Scottish court in defense of Maurice Swanson. This led to the fact that in the 1980s the expression get me Beltrami became a synonym among the people of Glasgow for asking for help in a desperate situation.

Personal

Beltrami is the father of three sons, each with a career in law. Edwin Beltrami is Senior Prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service in Wales , Adrian Beltrami is a London Crown Attorney specializing in commercial law and Jason Beltrami is a Glasgow attorney. Joseph Beltrami died at the age of 82.
