Joseph Carl Schöpp
Joseph Carl Schöpp (* 1939 in Wagstadt ) is a German Americanist .
Life
He studied philosophy , Latin , English and American studies at the universities of Würzburg , Freiburg im Breisgau , Dublin and Yale . After receiving his doctorate in 1971 and habilitation in 1984 at the Free University of Berlin , he taught at the Free University of Berlin , the Universities of Mannheim , Tübingen and Stuttgart . He was a visiting professor at Purdue University . From 1989 until his retirement in 2004 he taught asProfessor (C4) for American Studies at the University of Hamburg .
His research interests are literature and culture of transcendentalism, American modernism and postmodernism.
