Joseph William Charles (born February 9, 1868 in Boonville , Missouri , † February 10, 1950 in St. Louis , Missouri) was an American tennis player .

biography

Charles studied medicine at Columbia University and later worked as a doctor. He was known as a tennis player in the St. Louis area. In 1904 he was one of the oldest players in the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis in the tennis competition. In the singles he did not get past the second round after a bye at the start, where he was defeated by Rollin Feitshans 6: 8, 1: 6. In doubles , he competed alongside NM Smith . The two lost to Clarence Gamble and Arthur Wear at the beginning .
