Joseph Eciru Oliach

Joseph Eciru Oliach (born August 11, 1970 in Gweri , Madera , Soroti District , Uganda ) is a Ugandan clergyman and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Soroti .

Life

Joseph Eciru Oliach studied at the national seminars in Masaka and Fort Portal . On August 9, 2003, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Soroti .

After the ordination he was active in the pastoral care. From 2003 to 2004 he was also a Latin teacher at the boys' college in Soroti and a teacher of biblical theology and Hebrew at the national college in Fort Portal. From 2006 to 2009 he studied at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, where he obtained a licentiate in biblical exegesis . After further studies at the Pontifical Urban University from 2009 to 2012, he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . Since 2012 he has been teaching priests at the National Seminary in Kampala and teaching exegesis and Hebrew. Since 2016 he has also been responsible for biblical questions at the Secretariat of the Ugandan Bishops' Conference .

On March 19, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Soroti.
