Joseph Ersing (also Josef Ersing) (born February 4, 1882 in Ochsenhausen ; † August 5, 1956 at Rottenmünster Abbey ) was a German politician ( German Center Party , CDU ).

education and profession

Joseph Ersing first attended elementary school in his Upper Swabian hometown of Ochsenhausen and then completed an apprenticeship as a carpenter , which he completed in 1899 with the journeyman's examination. He then attended advanced training courses at the Volksverein for Catholic Germany in Mönchengladbach . He took part in the First World War as a soldier and was wounded in 1917. In the 1920s he was a member of the board of directors of the Deutsche Reichspost .

Political work

Josef Ersing belonged to the center during the Weimar Republic . In 1919/20 he was a member of the Weimar National Assembly . He was then a member of the Reichstag until 1933 . Between 1930 and 1933 he was a member of the Senate of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society . In a speech on January 19, 1933, he gave a speech in the budget committee of the Reichstag with revelations of details about the misuse of public funds granted to support agriculture in the east of Germany. In doing so, he aggravated the aid scandal in the East , which some historians attribute importance in connection with Hitler's appointment as Chancellor. It is believed that Hindenburg's involvement in the scandal influenced his decision to appoint Hitler as Reich Chancellor on January 30, 1933. Towards the end of the Third Reich, Ersing was imprisoned in the Ravensbrück concentration camp as a conspirator on July 20, 1944.

In 1945 he was a co-founder of the CDU and participated in the founding of the CDU in Württemberg-Baden . In 1946 he was a member of the provisional parliament and the constituent state assembly of Württemberg-Baden. He was also a member of the first Landtag of Württemberg-Baden from 1946 to 1950.
