Joseph Franz Weigl
Joseph Franz Weigl , also Franz Joseph Weigl (born May 19, 1740 in Bavaria , † January 25, 1820 in Vienna ) was a German cellist and first cellist in the orchestra of Prince Esterházy .
Life
Weigl played under the direction of Joseph Haydn and it is believed that Haydn wrote his Cello Concerto in C major ( Hob. VIIb / 1) for him. His son Joseph Weigl was a composer and conductor.
According to the autobiography of the musician Martin Vogt (1781–1854), around 1800 he received free cello lessons from Joseph Franz Weigl. After a short time both appeared and played duets in Klosterneuburg and other places.
