Joseph Kelemen

Joseph Kelemen (* 1957 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian organist , Catholic church musician and interpreter of 17th century music.

biography

Joseph Kelemen studied at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest. In 1980 they emigrated to Switzerland. Kelemen began studying at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel and was primarily concerned with the reproduction of early baroque music of the 17th century. Postgraduate studies in the organ class of Professor Harald Vogel at the University of the Arts in Bremen followed. In 1982 he emigrated to Canada. There he devoted himself to studying philosophy at the University of Toronto . At the same time, he obtained Canadian citizenship.

After completing his master's degree in philosophy, he came to Germany in 1986 and is currently the main organist at St. Johann Baptist in Neu-Ulm . Kelemen is a recognized specialist in the field of "old fingering ". He is interested in German organ music of the 17th century, in particular Johann Jakob Froberger, Kerll , Muffat, Matthias Weckmann and the music of Johann Sebastian Bach .

As an international lecturer in his field, he gives interpretation courses for organ literature from the 17th and 18th centuries. He has made several CD and radio recordings.
