Joseph Mégard (born November 16, 1850 in Carouge near Geneva , † January 26, 1918 in Plainpalais near Geneva) was a Swiss landscape painter and etcher .

He was born as the third of eight children of the guillocheur Jacques Mégard and the waitress Marie. Chardon born. His brother Claude Henri Mégard was a jeweler and goldsmith. Joseph married Caroline Sadoux, a school teacher. They had a daughter, Juliette Adèle Mégard, a pianist.

Joseph Mégard received his first painting lessons in the local school from the painter Daniel Gevril (1803-1875). After graduating from high school, he joined Jean-Pierre Charlier's engraving workshop . Following the advice of the painter Marcellin Desboutin , he learned the art of drypoint etching , then he dealt with etching . He also painted in oils and watercolors. He set up a studio in Plainpalais. He created etchings with views of the city of Geneva and its surroundings and also painted large-format landscapes. He went on study trips within Switzerland, also visited Algeria and Tunisia.
