Joseph Martin (bishop)
Joseph Martin MAfr (born April 29, 1903 in Saint-Rémy-les-Chimay , † June 13, 1982 ) was a Roman Catholic bishop and served as the first diocesan bishop of the Diocese of Bururi in Burundi .
Life
He was born in Saint-Rémy-les-Chimay (now part of Chimay ) in Belgium . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1926 as a missionary to the White Fathers . On July 14, 1949 he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Ngozi (Burundi) and at the same time titular Bishop of Oliva . He received his episcopal ordination on November 30, 1949 by Bishop André Marie Charue of Namur . From November 10, 1959, he was Bishop of Ngozi and from June 6, 1961, the day it was established, Bishop of the Diocese of Bururi. He resigned as Bishop of Bururi on September 17, 1973.
