The diocese of Namur (Latin Dioecesis Namurcensis , French Diocèse de Namur ) has existed since 1559. Today the parish includes the Belgian provinces of Namur and Luxembourg .
history
- 1559 : Foundation of the Namur diocese due to a reorganization of the dioceses in what was then the 'Habsburg Netherlands' (includes today's Netherlands , Belgium and Northern France) at the instigation of Philip II. The parish was previously assigned to the Liège diocese . Namur is incorporated into the newly founded church province of Cambrai .
- 1801 : Reorganization of the church organization in the course of the French Revolution - Namur subordinate to the Archdiocese of Mechlin-Brussels .
- 1830–42 : After the Belgian Revolution of 1830, the parishes in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg are initially subordinated to an Apostolic Vicariate and in 1842 finally to a separate diocese of Luxembourg .
- 1987–1991 : Series of cases of sexual abuse by the diocesan priest Gilbert Hubermond.
- 2015 : The Primate of Belgium, Archbishop André-Joseph Léonard , is because of its failure to act as diocesan bishop of Namur, in the case Huber moon by the appeal court in Liege to a fine condemned in the amount of 10,000 euros.
