The Belgian military ordinariate is a military ordinariate in Belgium and is responsible for the Belgian armed forces .

history

The military ordinariate in the Kingdom of Belgium provides pastoral care to members of the Belgian armed forces of Catholic denominations. It was made by Pope Pius XII. Erected on September 7, 1957. By mutual decision between the Holy See and the Kingdom of Belgium, the seat of the Belgian military ordinariate is in Brussels . From the announcement of the papal bull of September 7, 1957, initially as a military vicariate , the Archbishop of Mechelen , Cardinal Jozef-Ernest Van Roey , was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Belgium (military). The office of military bishop has always been held by the Archbishop of Mechlin, later Mechlin-Brussels.
