The Diocese of Bururi (Latin: Dioecesis Bururiensis ) in Burundi was founded on June 6, 1961 and has been part of the Roman Catholic Church Province of the Archdiocese of Bujumbura since November 25, 2006 .
The diocese is 5,983 km². Of the more than 1.4 million inhabitants in the area of the diocese, around 45 percent are Catholics, who are cared for by around 100 priests in 23 parishes.
The first bishop was the Belgian priest Joseph Martin MAfr , who resigned on September 17, 1973.
For many years the diocese of Bururi has had a partnership with the parish of Sankt Paul in Krefeld - Uerdingen (Germany).
