The Diocese of Bururi (Latin: Dioecesis Bururiensis ) in Burundi was founded on June 6, 1961 and has been part of the Roman Catholic Church Province of the Archdiocese of Bujumbura since November 25, 2006 .

The diocese is 5,983 km². Of the more than 1.4 million inhabitants in the area of ​​the diocese, around 45 percent are Catholics, who are cared for by around 100 priests in 23 parishes.

The first bishop was the Belgian priest Joseph Martin MAfr , who resigned on September 17, 1973.

For many years the diocese of Bururi has had a partnership with the parish of Sankt Paul in Krefeld - Uerdingen (Germany).
