Salvator Niciteretse

Salvator Niciteretse (born August 2, 1958 in Rutwenzi , Burundi ) is a Burundian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Bururi .

Life

Salvator Niciteretse attended the boys' seminar in Kanyosha from 1975 to 1979 and then the preparatory seminar in Bujumbura , where he obtained his university entrance qualification. He studied philosophy at the seminary in Bujumbura and studied theology at the seminary in Burasira . He received the sacrament of ordination on July 9, 1989 for the diocese of Bururi .

After the ordination he was active in the pastoral care. From 1993 to 1998 he was cathedral priest at the Cathedral of Bururi and diocesan director of the Pontifical Mission Societies . From 1998 to 2002 he studied at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome, where he obtained a degree in pastoral theology and a doctorate in Catholic social teaching . From 2003 he was secretary of the commission of the Bishops' Conference for the lay apostolate and professor at the seminaries in Gitega and Kiryama . At the International Forum of Catholic Action he was in charge of Africa.

On February 15, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Bururi. The Archbishop of Bujumbura , Gervais Banshimiyubusa , gave him on 18 April of that year on a football field in Kabuye , the episcopal ordination . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Muyinga , Joachim Ntahondereye , and the Archbishop Emeritus of Bujumbura, Evariste Ngoyagoye .
