Evariste Ngoyagoye

Evariste Ngoyagoye (born January 3, 1942 in Jenda , Burundi ) is a Burundian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Bujumbura .

Life

Pope Paul VI ordained him a priest on January 6, 1966 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Bubanza on June 7, 1980 . He was ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio in Burundi, Archbishop Donato Squicciarini , on August 24 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Joachim Ruhuna , Archbishop of Gitega , and Michel Ntuyahaga , Bishop of Bujumbura.

The Pope appointed him Bishop of Bujumbura on April 21, 1997. With the elevation to the archbishopric on November 25, 2006 he was appointed archbishop of Bujumbura.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on March 24, 2018.
