Joseph Nérette

Joseph C. Nérette (born April 9, 1924 in Port-au-Prince , † April 29, 2007 ibid) was a Haitian politician and acting president of Haiti .

biography

Studies and professional career

Joseph Nérette studying graduated law and economics at the Université d'État d'Haïti , which he in 1950 with the Licentiate completed. He then worked for ten years as a history , Spanish language and mathematics teacher in Hinche in the Département Center . In 1961 he was the deputy government commissioner of Hinche for a short time before he was a lecturer in mathematics at the Lycée Toussaint L'Ouverture in Hinche from 1961 to 1971 .

From 1971 to 1978 he was deputy government commissioner at the civil court ( Tribunal Civil ) of Port-au-Prince , before he was then until 1988 deputy government commissioner at the court of cassation ( Cour de Cassation ). In 1988 he was finally appointed judge at the Court of Cassation.

Acting President 1991 to 1992

After the overthrow of the elected President Jean-Bertrand Aristide , he was appointed acting President of Haiti by the military junta under Lieutenant General Raoul Cédras on October 8, 1991 . In fact, power remained largely with the military junta. He made talks about Aristide's return to Haiti dependent on his remaining in office as incumbent president. As such, he remained in office until his replacement by Marc Bazin on June 19, 1992.

After leaving the presidency, he withdrew from government policy. After several years of lung cancer , he died at the age of 83.
