Joseph Simmler (born November 4, 1842 in Geisenheim , Duchy of Nassau , † September 25, 1899 in Aschaffenburg ) was a German artist who stood out primarily as an illustrator .

Joseph Simmler was one of nine children of the painter Friedrich Simmler (1801–1872). His siblings Wilhelm Simmler (1840–1923), Franz Joseph Simmler (1846–1926) and Antonia Simmler (1852–1923) were also artistically active.

Little is known about his life. In the 1860s he worked for a time with his brother Franz Joseph in the workshop of the sculptor Gottfried Renn in Speyer. He also knows several illustrations for books for children and young people.

He later worked as a senior bailiff for the Counts of Ingelheim , for whom his grandfather Johann Melchior Simmler (1758–1835) worked.
