Joseph Wilhelm Rettemeier (born September 17, 1914 in Niederdollendorf ; † December 19, 1997 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German officer in the Wehrmacht and the Bundeswehr (most recently a colonel ) and holder of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross.

Life

In the Second World War, Rettemeier was a company commander in a tank division that fought mainly in the central sector of the Eastern Front and in Africa , first as a captain , later as a major . In 1943 he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross and in 1944 the 425th Oak Leaves to the Knight's Cross. After the war he joined the Bundeswehr. He was the commander of tank brigades at various locations and, most recently, with the rank of colonel, the deputy commander of the 2nd Panzer Grenadier Division in Marburg . From 1973 to 1975 Rettemeier was a military advisor in Taiwan . He was the bearer of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, 1st class.

Colonel a. D. Rettemeier died on December 19, 1997 in Bad Nauheim, the funeral speech was given by General a. D. Günter Kießling .
