Joseph von Bretfeld

Joseph Ritter and Edler Herr von Bretfeld , from 1792 Baron von Bretfeld (* 1729 ; † August 24, 1820 in Prague ), was a Bohemian lawyer and university professor in Prague.

biography

He came from a noble family from Krumau in South Bohemia and was the son of Johann Georg Ritter and noble lord von Bretfeld († before 1770), from the House of Pregg von Pregfeldt , and Veronika von Herguet (around 1712 to after 1770).

Bretfeld married on November 11, 1764 Theresia Waibel von Braitfeldt (?? - 1771) and in their second marriage on June 14, 1772 Maria Anna Chlumczansky von Przestawlk and Chlumczan (* August 1, 1753; † January 20, 1819 in Prague), the Daughter of Anton Ritter Chlumczansky von Przestawlk and Chlumczan auf Weseliczko and Hossticz (1722–1773) and Josepha Obiteczky von Obitecz. Her brother Wenzel Leopold Prince Chlumczansky became Archbishop of Prague and Primate of the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1814 . From this second marriage comes the son Franz Joseph Freiherr von Bretfeld-Chlumczansky (1777-1839), lawyer and university professor in Vienna .

Bretfeld was a knight of the Order of St. Wenceslas and crown guardian of the knighthood in the Kingdom of Bohemia. He had a doctorate in law and a state advocate as well as the Archbishop's Consistorial Chancellor in Prague. He was a professor and six times rector of the University of Prague .
