Josephine Wessely , also Josefine Wessely (born March 18, 1860 in Vienna , † August 12, 1887 in Karlsbad ) was an Austrian actress .

Life

Josefine Wessely began private studies in 1874 and attended the drama school of the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde . She debuted on July 1, 1876 as Luise in Kabale und Liebe at the Leipzig municipal theater, which it belonged until 1879, was then, after a stint in Berlin and Vienna, 1879 for the Burgtheater engaged in Vienna and 1884 to k. k. Appointed court actress. She was engaged there for life, but died in 1887.

She died of stomach cancer and was buried in the Hütteldorfer Friedhof in Vienna.

A portrait of her by Eduard Charlemont is in the Burgtheatergalerie. In 1931 the Josefine-Wessely-Weg in Vienna- Meidling was named after her.

She was the aunt of the actress Paula Wessely .
