Josh Trank (born February 19, 1984 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American film and television director .

Life

Trank first appeared in 2007 as a director and screenwriter for five episodes of the series The Kill Point and was subsequently involved in three projects as a film editor . In 2012 he directed the superhero / science fiction film Chronicle - What Are You Capable of? which became a hit at both the box office and critics.

In 2015 his second feature film was released, a reboot of the Fantastic Four . The film, in which Trank also worked on the script, received mostly negative reviews and, with an estimated loss of 80 to 100 million dollars, is considered the biggest flop of the 2015 cinema year. Trank had previously been engaged, the second part of an independent Star Wars film To direct a series of films, however, left this project after the appearance of Fantastic Four in May 2015. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times , Trank justified his decision by saying that after the criticism, he wanted to devote himself to smaller projects first.

His next film, Capone, about gang boss Al Capone , for whose script he was also responsible, was released on May 12, 2020 via video-on-demand . Although Tom Hardy's acting performance was often positively highlighted, the film met with rather restrained to negative reviews.
