Joshua Frederick "Josh" Wagenaar (born February 26, 1985 in Grimsby , Ontario ) is a former Canadian football goalkeeper and current goalkeeping coach.

Club career

Wagenaar, who also has a Dutch passport, signed with the Dutch first division club ADO Den Haag in the spring of 2006 . The first few months he played for the amateur team, in summer 2006 he was promoted to the professional squad. In his first professional season he came to five missions and was one of five goalkeepers used when relegated. After another six months in the second division, in which he was not used, he left the club. In April 2008 he signed a contract with the Danish first division club Lyngby BK - with which he was already in the winter break for trial training - as a substitute keeper behind Rune Pedersen and substitute for the injured Thomas Seidelin . At the end of the season, a little over a month later, he left the club again.

During the summer break of 2008, Wagenaar completed trial training with the English third division clubs Leeds United and Yeovil Town and finally received a one-year contract with Yeovil. The first three months he was behind his compatriot Asmir Begović , who Yeovil had loaned from Portsmouth FC , still a substitute goalkeeper, from November 2008 he was the club's regular goalkeeper.

In summer 2009 Wagenaar moved to FC Falkirk in the Scottish Premier League on a free transfer and ended his active career here in May 2010.

National team

Wagenaar took part with the Canadian U-20 selection at the Junior World Championships 2005 in the Netherlands and completed all three games in the preliminary round. Two years earlier he was also in the squad for the 2003 Junior World Championships , but remained behind Alim Karim in the surprising quarter-finals without a commitment.

Wagenaar was appointed to the Canadian senior national team for the first time in 2005 and made his international debut in November 2006 in a friendly against Hungary.

In March 2008 he played with the Olympic team (U-23) the qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, but due to a 3-0 defeat in the semifinals they missed the final and the associated qualification.

Three years after his debut with the national team, he was on the field for 45 minutes in the game against Guatemala as part of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup .

Coaching career

After retiring, he went to Graceland University in August 2010, where he coached the women's and men's soccer team's Yellowjackets. He held the job of goalkeeping coach of Graceland Yellowjackets for three years before joining Louisiana Tech University as the women's assistant coach in the summer of 2013 .
