Joshua Aaron Cohen (born September 6, 1980 in Somers Point , New Jersey ) is an American writer.
Life
Joshua Cohen is descended on his father's side from German Jews from Bernkastel , on his mother's side from Jews from Hungary. He grew up in Atlantic City and attended a yeshiva as a teenager . He studied composition at the Manhattan School of Music . Between 2001 and 2007 he was the Eastern European correspondent for the English edition of Forward , based in Berlin . Cohen's literary reviews appear in Harper's Magazine , New York Times Book Review, and London Review of Books .
His novel Witz was put on the list of the "Best Book of 2010" by the weekly newspaper The Village Voice , and the short story band Four New Messages was nominated by The New Yorker on the list of "Best Book of 2012". The writer colleague Frank Schäfer expressed himself very reserved in the review of the German translation. In 2015 Ulrich Blumenbach was awarded the Zug translator grant for translating the novel Witz . Blumenbach also translated Cohen's debut solo for Schneidermann . For the transmission of the word games in Cohen's debut novel, they worked closely together to find an appropriate form in the German language.
