As of the 2000 census, there are 11,614 people, 4,920 households and 2,952 families in the city. The population density is 1,112.7 inhabitants per km². 85.66% of the population are White, 7.01% African American , 0.25% Native American , 3.17% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 2.25% Other Ethnicity, and 1.64% Mixed Race . 5.99% are Latinos of any race.
Of the 4,920 households, 29.4% have children under the age of 18. 41.2% of them are married couples living together, 14.5% are single mothers, 40.0% are not families, 32.9% are single households and 11.7% are people over 65. The average household size is 2 , 32, the average family size 2.97.
23.4% of the population are under 18 years old, 7.1% between 18 and 24, 31.6% between 25 and 44, 22.9% between 45 and 64, 15.1% older than 65. The average age is 38 years. The ratio of women to men is 100: 88.7, for people older than 18 the ratio is 100: 84.2.
