Jouko Kalevi Karjalainen (born July 27, 1956 in Kajaani ) is a former Finnish Nordic combined athlete .

Career

World championships

Karjalainen first took part in an international competition in 1978 at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti. In the individual competition he took 8th place.

1982 in Oslo he just missed the medal ranks with 4th place, but won the silver medal in the team competition with Rauno Miettinen and Jorma Etelälahti .

Also with Rauno Miettinen and Jukka Ylipulli he was runner-up in the non-Olympic team competition in Rovaniemi in 1984.

A year later he won the bronze medal at the World Championships in Seefeld in both the individual and team competition with Jyri Pelkonen and Jukka Ylipulli.

Olympic games

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid , Karjalainen won the silver medal in the individual competition. He repeated this success four years later at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo .

Other successes and end of career

In 1981 Karjalainen won the individual competition at the Holmenkollen Ski Festival .

After his active career, the professional soldier trained the Finnish national team of Nordic combined athletes from 1998 to 2002 and 2006 to 2008.
