Jourdaine Fletcher (born September 23, 1997 in St. James ) is a Jamaican football player on the position of a striker . After making his debut in the top soccer league in his home country in 2016 , he made his debut in the Jamaican national soccer team in 2017 .

After playing college football in the meantime, he returned to his homeland in 2018 and has been under contract with the Jamaican first division club Mount Pleasant Football Academy since 2019 .

Club career

Career start at home

Jourdaine Fletcher was born on September 23, 1997 in the Jamaican county of Saint James Parish. At an advanced age he came to Cornwall College in Montego Bay , where he was successfully used in various school soccer teams from the start. Among other things, he was the U-16 champion in the 2012/13 season and was already considered an accurate striker at that time, but he could also be used in midfield positions. For the 2014/15 season, he set himself the goal of the 40-goal mark, which he only just missed. In the 2016 game year he played for the senior team at his school and won the daCosta Cup , the highest national school soccer league . His 33 goals, which he scored by the end of the season, contributed significantly to winning the title. For Cornwall College it was the 13th league title in its 120-year history, as well as the first title in 15 years. Together with Duhaney Williams from Jamaica College , which won the second major competition, the Manning Cup , he was named Most Valuable Player and Top Scorer and received a mobile phone from the sponsor, the mobile communications company FLOW , as a prize for his achievements .

In the team he mainly formed a congenial duo with Peter-Lee Vassell , who came to the United States as a legionnaire from Faulkland FC in March 2017 . At this point, he had already played with Vassell for ten or eleven years, after the two had already played in a team in the first class of the Howard Cooke Primary and in the years after that at different levels, such as the St James FA VMBS Under-13 , the ISSA Under-14 and ISSA Under-16 , as well as played together at club level. After their school career, the two came to the Jamaican first division club Montego Bay United , where the 1999 born Vassell could not prevail, but soon after found the Faulkland FC , while Fletcher soon made his debut in the first class. Fletcher made his debut on January 8, 2017 in a 2-1 home win over Waterhouse FC when he came on for the injured Dino Williams at half-time and scored the 2-1 winning goal in the 68th minute of volleyball . After that, coach Dillon Thelwell regularly used him as a substitute, mainly playing short appearances that lasted a few minutes, but was on the pitch for the first time in the 0-1 home defeat by Tivoli Gardens FC on January 29, 2017. By the end of the season, Fletcher had ten league appearances and one goal and finished the championship with his team in third place in the table.

College football in the US and return to Jamaica

He subsequently joined the San Jacinto Coyotes at San Jacinto College , a community college in the Greater Houston metropolitan area . In addition to studying at college, he made 15 championship appearances in the men's soccer team of the university sports department, in which he scored seven goals and made as many assists. During the free time at college, he returned to his home country for some time, where he completed a 90-minute league appearance for Montego Bay United against Harbor View on December 18, 2017 . Just a day later, his college announced that Fletcher had signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to continue his advanced training and college football career at a four-year university on a full scholarship. Fletcher then moved to Eastern Florida State College , a public college in Brevard County , Florida .

In the following summer of 2018, he ended his college career early and returned to his home country, where he rejoined Montego Bay United. Shortly before that, he had completed a trial training session with the Maltese first division club St. Andrews , which was unsuccessful for him . He then played for the club in 18 league games until the winter break in the 2018/19 season , but was only able to contribute one goal. His goal of scoring at least four goals in the first two games and thus recommending himself for the Jamaican national team or at least the U-23 selection of his home country was far from being achieved. In the final ranking on the penultimate place, the club even had to make the way to the Jamaican second division.

Fletcher was no longer a member of the squad at that time; During the 2018/19 winter break, he switched to the relatively young Jamaican first division club Mount Pleasant Football Academy . Under coach Donovan Duckie , Fletcher then mostly acted as a substitute player and as such came up to two goals in eleven league appearances by the end of the season. In the final standings, Mount Pleasant finished third in the regular season and did not come in fourth in the subsequent championship round. In 2019/20 Fletcher has so far (as of January 22, 2020) played in 16 championship games, scored four goals and is currently (as of January 22, 2020) in second place behind Waterhouse FC.

National team career

After playing for the U-15 and U-17 national teams in his home country early on in his career, Fletcher was a regular member of Jamaica's junior team , especially in 2016 . With the team he took part in the qualification for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship 2017 in the Dominican Republic in June 2016 , but retired with the Jamaicans in third of four places in Group 4 from the current qualification.

Shortly after his first division debut, Theodore Whitmore , coach of the Jamaican national team , brought him into the national squad for a friendly international match against the United States . He made his debut in the game against the USA on February 3, 2017, when he came onto the field in the 83rd minute of the 0-1 defeat for Romario Williams . About two weeks after his international debut, he came to another friendly against Honduras when he played in the 1-0 win from the start and was replaced by Cory Burke from the 64th minute .
