The Journal of Ornithology (until 2003: Journal for Ornithology ) is a scientific journal in English that is published by the German Ornithological Society . The journal is the oldest still existing ornithological journal in the world and is still considered the leading periodical in its field to be published in Germany . Up to and including volume 144 (2003) the journal was called “ Journal für Ornithologie ” with publications in German. It has been published by Springer Science + Business Media since 2004 .
The magazine was first published in 1853 by Jean Louis Cabanis . The first issue appeared on January 1, 1853 in Kassel , since then appear to the books of a year quarter . Cabanis remained since the establishment for 41 years the editor and was founded in 1894 by his son Anton Reichenow replaced.
