The Joyeuse ( Basque : Behotegi ) is a river in France that runs in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . It rises in the municipality of Iholdy , initially drains eastwards, later turns north and crosses the French Basque Country on its way . After 27 kilometers in the municipality of Amendeuix-Oneix, it flows into the Bidouze as a left tributary .
Not to be confused with the Joyeuse river of the same name , which flows directly into the Adour and is also called Aran !
