Career

society

The offensive player Mamelli called "Palito" played in 1968 for the Argentine club CA Belgrano . For the team from Cordoba , he completed 14 games in the Primera División Nacional that year. From 1969 to 1973 he was a member of the squad of the Uruguayan first division club Nacional Montevideo . In his early days he was unable to play a game there for five months due to an injury and was initially unable to prevail against strikers Celio and Artime . After Celio's departure, however, he then formed a dreaded storm duo with Artime. With the Montevideans he won the Uruguayan championship in 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1972. In 1972 he was the top scorer in the Primera División with 20 goals scored . He was also successful on an international level with the Bolsos and won the Copa Libertadores in 1971 . In the first and third final game, he came on as a substitute. In December 1971 he was also part of the winning team of the Bolsos in the two games against Panathinaikos Athens for the World Cup and came to a starting eleven in the second leg. In the two games against CD Cruz Azul in July 1972 and November 1972, in which Nacional won the Copa Interamericana 1972 in his favor, Mamelli was in the starting line-up and contributed to Nacional's 1-1 equalizer in both games. In the 1973/74 and 1974/75 seasons he played 35 games and scored nine goals as part of an engagement with the Spanish club Betis Sevilla from his first league game on September 8, 1973 to his last appearance on March 9, 1975. This was followed by a career move at CA River Plate in 1976. The following year he was back in the Nacional Montevideos squad, scored eleven goals in 19 missions and won the Uruguayan championship again, although there are sources that do not explicitly attribute this last championship to him . In total, he scored 156 goals during his time with Nacional. This makes him one of the ten most successful goal scorers in the club's history. In the course of his career he was also active for Atlético Tucumán and the Rampla Juniors . After the career, Mamelli settled with his wife and daughters in the Montevidean barrio Villa Dolores .
