Juan Gelpí (born May 23, 1932 in Barcelona , Spain ) is a Spanish cameraman .

Life

Gelpí had already taken an interest in photography as a teenager and at times ran his own photo laboratory. The Catalan came to film in 1954 as a still photographer , four years later Juan Gelpi was hired for the first time as the second cameraman. In this capacity, the man from Barcelona filmed under the directors Antonio Isasi-Isasmendi ( Diego, the Outlaw , 1959, Sentencia contra una mujer , 1960, Tierra de todos , 1961), Ignacio Iquino ( Unleashed Tricks , 1961), Julio Coll ( El traje de oro , 1959) and Mario Camus ( Los farsantes , 1963).

In 1964 Gelpí received his first assignment as chief cameraman. By the end of the decade, the man from Barcelona mainly photographed Western European co-productions with international cast, routine B-film action of no great importance. During the 1970s and 1980s, Gelpí was almost exclusively involved in second-rate, purely Spanish productions that were rarely shown outside of the Iberian Peninsula. At the beginning of the 1990s, Juan Gelí disappeared from the public eye.
