occupation

The big hunt is a German-Spanish-Italian action film from 1968 with Ray Danton in the leading role.

action

After the end of the Congo crisis, there is nothing more to do for the European and US mercenaries in this country. Two of them, Marco Anderson and the German Steinmann, therefore decide to take on a new assignment that will take them to South America. There they are supposed to guard uranium ore transports through the jungle on behalf of the mine owner Manuel de Lagos and also protect de Lagos from attacks by the Bandidos. These are led by a terrifying, mute man who always appears in black. Soon the jungle is all over the place: the mine owner is murdered by bandits and the miners he employs are terrorized.

Eventually the gangsters try to get hold of the precious ores. The corrupt Steinmann, the more greedy of the two mercenaries, finally decides to change sides and now works for the unspecified Man in Black. Now Marco, only supported by the beautiful Maria, has to fight evil all by himself. Steinmann, who has the opportunity to shoot his old friend on behalf of his new employer, refuses to murder his friend from former mercenary days, who, like him, only does his job conscientiously because he is paid well for it. After all, Marco can finally render the Bandidos harmless with his solid, tough mentality.

Production notes

The big hunt was probably filmed in Spain and celebrated its premiere in Germany on December 27, 1968. In the following year the film was shown in Austria, the USA as well as in the co-producing countries Spain and Italy.

Leading actor Danton, who again met Pascale Petit , his partner from The Spy Who Goed to Hell , ended his four-year flying visit to European action, agent and trash cinema with this film.

Reviews

“Obviously you can have anything for money! These two men kill for it, they fight using their own skin. They also save a life at one point, make other people's business theirs while the cash register is good, and are just hesitant to kill each other. One of them almost got sentimental when it came to saving a mine and a precious cargo of ore. An uncompromising film about tough men (Ray Danton and Carl Möhner), but a dirty craft. "

- Hamburger Abendblatt from March 15, 1969

In the lexicon of international films it says: "An action film that endeavors in plot and character drawing, but which does not go beyond a collection of relevant genre clichés."

cinema.online found: "Explosive behavior in a tired film."

Even the Evangelical Film-Observer did not come to a better assessment: “Somewhat exciting adventure film, which lacks atmosphere, but instead serves to glorify mercenaries. Without recommendation. "
