Carl Möhner

Carl Martin Rudolf Möhner , also Carl Mohner (born August 11, 1921 in Vienna , Austria , † January 14, 2005 in McAllen , Texas ) was an Austrian actor and painter .

Life

Möhner attended the theater school in his hometown from 1937 and worked on various Austrian and German theater stages before the Second World War interrupted his career. He then achieved a film career in the 1950s and 1960s with numerous appearances in international productions. His best-known films include the French gangster film classic Rififi (1955), as well as The Last Journey of Bismarck (1960), Die Geierwally (1956), White Elder (1957) or Where the Old Forests Rush (1956).

At the beginning of the 1960s Möhner began to devote himself to painting. After a short time he was able to exhibit in numerous European cities; In 1963 he won the gold medal of the "IX Premio Internazionale de Pittura San Vitto Romano". Also in the 1990s he received several awards. His style is described as "simple and characterized by childlike innocence".

In 1978 Möhner largely withdrew from the film business and moved to Texas. He died of Parkinson's disease .

His sons Gunther Möhner and Gernot Möhner were also active as actors, the former only in German sex films between 1970 and 1973.
