The Juba Bridge in the summer of 2006

The Juba Bridge is a road bridge in the southeast of the city of Juba over the section of the Nile called Bahr al-Jabal in South Sudan . It connects Juba and South Sudan via Nimule with Uganda and Kenya in East Africa .

It is the only bridge over the Bahr al-Jabal in South Sudan, which flows through the country over a length of 1200 km. The next bridge upriver is the 445 road kilometers away bridge over the Albert Nile in Pakwach in northern Uganda , the next bridges downstream are the Kusti railway bridge around 1,300 kilometers away and the neighboring road bridge between Kusti and Rabak in Sudan .

The bridge consists of two superimposed parallel Bailey - steel - girder bridges , each with a road surface. The bridge is a total of 10 meters wide, 252 meters long and was built in the late 1970s / early 1980s.

Traffic is weight-restricted due to the age and construction of the bridge. Despite these precautionary measures, a roadway collapsed on November 6, 2006 due to a truck from Uganda overloaded with cement . Repair work on the bridge began immediately and was completed in late 2006.
