Judith Furse

Judith Furse (born March 4, 1912 in Camberley , Surrey , England , † August 29, 1974 in Canterbury , England) was a British theater and film actress .

Life

Judith Furse was born in 1912 in Camberley, England, as the daughter of British Lieutenant General Sir William Furse. Her brother Roger K. Furse made a name for himself as a costume and set designer, who received an Oscar for his set of Laurence Olivier's Shakespeare film Hamlet (1948) . After attending St. Paul's Girl's School, Judith Furse studied acting at the Old Vic Theater in London in the early 1930s .

In 1939 she made her screen debut as Greer Garson's friend Flora in the teacher drama Goodbye, Mr. Chips . Perhaps her best-known role was in the film drama The Black Narcissus (1947) as the reliable sister Briony at the side of Deborah Kerr . Due to her robust stature and more masculine facial features, Furse was mostly determined to be the bitter type of woman. From 1961 to 1964 she was also seen in three episodes of the British carry-on ... film series . In 1972 she withdrew from the film business.

Judith Furse died of a heart attack in Canterbury in 1974 at the age of 62 .
