Judy Bounds Coleman

Judy Bounds Coleman (born December 23, 1927 in Ardmore , Oklahoma , † June 30, 2009 in the Heritage Manor in Plano , Texas ) was an American singer and music professor.

Life

Her parents were Frank Bounds and Mattie Lee Moss Bounds. In her youth she lived in Kingston , then moved to Madill , where she graduated from Madill High School, graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a Masters in Fine Arts.

She taught at the university for several years before moving to Europe to sing and teach various operas for over 20 years. She started her career in Germany in the summer of 1962 . She sang the role of Ulrika in Verdi's masked ball in Bad Kissingen and Bad Reichenhall , as well as the role of Azucena in Il trovatore . She appeared six times as Suzuki in Puccini's Madama Butterfly, and at Christmas 1962 she was a soloist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. She was the director of the Anglo-American church choir in Munich .

Together with her friend Roberta Knie , for whom she was also a mentor, she lived for three years from 1974 to 1977, during an engagement in Graz , in Laßnitzhöhe . She sang at the inauguration of the 15th Governor of Oklahoma Raymond D. Gary and taught at the University of Pittsburgh .

After returning from Europe, she took care of Old Homestead Place and died on June 30th, 2009 in Plano, Texas.
