Jugend-Zeit ... in der Stadt is a documentary film from DEFA Studio for Documentaries by Roland Steiner from 1979 .

action

It is deep winter, which you can see from the heavily snow-covered streets of East Berlin , on which young people ride their mopeds and motorbikes . But there are also young people who deal with serious issues. They include a group that freely discusses their problems in front of the camera. One girl tells how difficult it was for her to switch from school to apprenticeship, although she liked the apprenticeship better. Another girl interferes and emphasizes that the demands are higher today, the working hours are longer than at school and the demands are also tougher, plus the stress of shift work. In some, this leads to increased aggressiveness , irritability and defiance . Now the first girl complains again that the apprentices are constantly being taught what they do not find beautiful, while in socialism you can sometimes tell your teacher your opinion, what he has to put up with.

Another topic is the future in one's own family. It's about children and the free time they lose. In her opinion, this means that a girl's youth has already come to an end. Another speaks about the fact that she has grown from her love and the increased responsibility it has given. A visit by two couples from this group to their own apartments completes the picture of the responsible young people. They know exactly what they want and if it's just about a young man's aversion to kale for lunch, or whether a wall unit is important when furnishing a home. They look back on their parents' lives with a certain degree of pride, but want to do some things differently in their future.

So it is quite common problems that concern these young people. Of course there are also some who drive through the streets on their two-wheelers, as seen at the beginning of the film. There are also the groups that meet at the Vinetastraße subway station , in front of a department store or at a dance to spend their free time there and that are shown between the recordings of the discussions, but they too belong to the young people in Berlin, like one perceives them daily.
