Gerta Stecher (* in today's Chemnitz ) is a German author , journalist , director , dramaturge , camerawoman , photographer and diseuse .

Career

Gerta Stecher grew up in Magdeburg and Fürstenwalde / Spree . At the age of four she was already on the catwalk and had her first costume appearance. From the age of 8 to 15 she received intensive training in children's ballet. From the age of 17 she worked as a photo model and mannequin. She has lived in Berlin since she was 18 .

Gerta Stecher studied cultural theory / aesthetics at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Her academic teachers included Dietrich Mühlberg , Walter Hofmann , Wolfgang Heise and Karin Hirdina . She finished her studies with a diploma .

activities

After graduating, Gerta Stecher was employed as a dramaturge at the DEFA studio for documentary films . Her colleagues, whose films she accompanied dramaturgically, include the directors Roland Steiner , Ernst Cantzler , Jochen Kraußer , Andreas Voigt , Günter Jordan , Helga Porsch , Petra Tschörtner , Christiane Hein and the cameramen Hans-Eberhard Leupold and Gunter Becher .

From 1983 to 1989 Gerta Stecher was a member of the Berlin Literature Center under the direction of Petra Grande . At the same time, literary works, especially short stories and radio plays, were published .

In 1990 she received a working grant for Berlin writers. In the same year she was a participant in the final reading of the fourth “Tuttlinger Literature Prize for Unpublished Prose”.

After all DEFA studios (feature film, documentary film, animated film) had been closed in the course of reunification , Gerta Stecher switched from unemployment to self-employment .

From then on she worked, interrupted by an ABM position at the Potsdam College (1991–93) and an ABM / LKZ position in the regional association for cultural youth education (1995–1998), as a freelance writer and journalist for radio and television stations as well as for print media.

She worked for the broadcasters Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB), Sender Freies Berlin (SFB), 3sat , Rundfunk Berlin Brandenburg (RBB), Deutschlandradio Berlin , Deutschlandradio Kultur , Deutschlandfunk and various print media such as the cultural-political ver.di magazine Kunst & Kultur . Her preferred work topics are art and culture , women and Latin America .

From 1992 to 1998 she was a member of the New Society for Literature.

From 1997 to 2001 she worked on television programs for the broadcast series “Ungeschminkt” on the Brandenburg radio on indigenous women in Bolivia and Honduras, on mulatto women in Peru (such as María Elena Moyano ) and in the USA, on statues of women in cemeteries, on partnership-relevant women Social issues (with Rita Süssmuth , former President of the German Bundestag ), about the first female police force in Prussia , about the southeast Europe culture association in Berlin.

By 2012 she had produced around 60 radio and television programs and features, also as an author, camerawoman and director.

In 2003, the opera “Das Beben” was premiered in the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich under the direction of Ekkehard Klemm , for which Gerta Stecher wrote the libretto based on Heinrich von Kleist's novella The Earthquake of Chili . The composer is the Armenian Avet Terterjan . The opera was recognized as a sensational success in the press: Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ), Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).

In the years from 1995 to 2008 she published several books in documentary prose. To do this, she undertakes research-intensive preparatory work both at various theater and opera stages in Germany for the book “Only the young King Lear has something to laugh” and in Latin America for “True Stories from the New World” or in Brandenburg history books, files and archives for "The Unserious History of Brandenburg" (together with Hans-Otto Dill ). The handling of research is thanks to her experience as a documentary filmmaker and journalist.

The writing of the cultural biography "Karl Richter - A long life for 'black art' and its unions", in which the life of a person is written down from an artistic or cultural perspective, probably the first of its kind, is methodologically based on the Findings from your university studies (Karl Richter, former state district chairman IG Druck und Papier Berlin / West). This book is the first volume of the Karl-Richter-Edition of the Karl-Richter-Verein Berlin.

She organizes various readings from her books and her collage " Lise Meitner - 'Amazone' of atomic science".

As a photographer

She also works as a photographer and illustrated some of her print media articles as well as two of her books or book covers with photos.

She has published photos in various magazines and journals in Germany as well as in Mexico and Cuba and in 1998 in the illustrated book “Photographs from Brandenburg”.

As a photographer, she works thematically and has thirteen photo exhibitions that she shows across Germany. For some of them it offers lectures accompanying the exhibition, paired with its own radio or television reports.

As a diseuse

In 1998 Gerta Stecher took a performance / pantomime course at the NoTechFest in Berlin with Tadashi Endo .

From 2005 to 2013 she was a member of ver.diChor Berlin eV under the direction of Natalya Chaplygina .

From 2006 to 2011 Gerta Stecher attended Johanna Arndt's annual chanson workshop . Arndt is one of Gisela May's first students and like her, an experienced Diseuse, is also a chanson teacher. In addition to her chanson training, Gerta Stecher performed her own chanson program.

Since 2013 she has been working mainly as a diseuse and is on the road with six programs in which she not only develops the concept as a singer, but is also her own director , costume designer , choreographer and presenter / commentator . This multifunction is particularly evident in the programs “SOLO in DUET”, “ALLES THEATER” and “WAR, hurray”.

Her three favorite song genres, all from the 1920s to 1950s, are the German chanson, songs by Bertolt Brecht and, finally, titles from film, comedy and revue.

In addition to these five solo programs, she organizes the talk concert “Mulattin” together with Hans-Otto Dill .

And as the “CHANSONETTAS” she appears together with Heidi Riehm in the programs she developed “Berlin, crazy thing” and “KRIEG, hurra”.

Your program-bound pianistic companions are Christiane Obermann, Andreas Wolter , Wolfgang Panwitz, Christian Zacker, Michael Letz. She also worked with Uwe Streibel, Karin Coper and Tobias Bartholmeß.

Linking their diverse activities

She successfully creates a link between the results of her various activities, two examples here:

First: As a journalist, she sat in on Gisela May's chanson workshop , condensing this into one of the texts in her book “Only King Lear has something to laugh” and this is part of her musical-literary program “ALLES THEATER”.

Second: As a journalist she produced the television report “Statues of Women in Cemeteries”, as a photographer the photo exhibition “Women for Eternity”, as an actress the photo-text performance “Poses of Eros and Eternity” and finally the combination of photo exhibition, film screening and song titles from their chanson program "WEIBERLIEDER" to an independent evening event.
