Juha Laukkanen

Juha Laukkanen (born January 6, 1969 in Pielavesi ) is a Finnish athlete who was active as a javelin thrower in the 1990s.

He made his first international appearance in 1988 at the Junior World Championships in Greater Sudbury , where he came in tenth with 65.54 m.

He took part in the Olympic Games only once - in 1992 in Barcelona . With 79.78 m he missed the required qualifying distance of 80 meters, but made it into the final in ninth place, which he finished in sixth place with 79.20 m.

In the following years he went to the European championships twice - in 1994 in Helsinki and 1998 in Budapest . In Helsinki he did not make it to the final with 75.76 m. In Budapest, on the other hand, he qualified directly with a throw over 83.71 m, was able to improve again by a good meter in the final and ended up fifth with 84.78 m.

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton , he came in 19th place with 78.88 m.

Since he had strong competition in his own country with Seppo Räty and Aki Parviainen , he could only win two national championships: 1992 (86.72 m) and 1994 (81.92 m).

With his personal best of 88.22 m, thrown on June 20, 1992 in Kuortane , he is currently (March 2007) ranked 18th on the all-time world best list.

Juha Laukkanen is 1.86 m tall and weighs 90 kg.
