Jules Boucherit

Jules Eugène Boucherit (born March 29, 1877 in Morlaix , † April 1, 1962 in Paris ) was a French violinist and violin teacher.

Life

Boucherit studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Jules Garcin . At the age of 27 he won the "Second Prize of the Paris Conservatory". He then played with Jacques Thibaud in the orchestra Concerts Colonne and Marcel Chailley became his assistant. In 1956 Boucherit married his student Denise Soriano (1916–2006), who was herself a well-known violinist.

Jules Boucherit had many students who have become famous themselves, including Ginette Neveu , Christian Ferras , Michel Schwalbé , Manuel Rosenthal , the great jazz violinist Michel Warlop , Ivry Gitlis , Michèle Boussinot , Michèle Auclair , Devy Erlih and Janine Andrade .

During the occupation in World War II , he hid numerous Jewish musicians from the Gestapo . In December 1994, Jules Boucherit was posthumously awarded the Medal of the Righteous by the Yad Vashem Committee in Jerusalem .
