Jules Worms
Jules Worms (born December 16, 1832 in Paris , † November 24, 1924 ) was a French painter, etcher and draftsman.
Life
In his hometown, Worms first learned lithography , presumably from Charles Philipon (1806–1862); from 1849 he studied with the painter Adolphe Lafosse (1810–1879). He later went on several study trips to Spain ; Among other things, he spent several weeks in Granada in 1871 with the Catalan painter Marià Fortuny . On these study trips he made a lot of sketches that later provided him with the basis for his pictures.
In addition to genre painting , Worms also made a name for itself with etchings and drawings . His scenes from popular life in particular are characterized by a lively depiction of the subjects and accurate characterization. In a mostly humorous way, Worms used it to describe stories from everyday life. Worms also painted numerous watercolors and supplied drawings for woodcuts . Until 1914, Worms was regularly represented at the exhibitions of the Paris Salon .
