Julia Strecker (* 1960 in Bonn ) is a German Protestant pastoral psychologist and pastor .

Life

After studying theology , Julia Strecker worked for three years as a social pedagogue in a women’s project in the USA and was pastor for women’s counseling and work with girls in the Cologne-Mitte church district for four years. Since 2009 she has been a half-time pastor of the Evangelical Church Community in Cologne-Klettenberg and has been running her own practice as a systemic couple and family therapist since 2015 .

In 2010 she received her doctorate at the University of Paderborn under Harald Schroeter-Wittke with a thesis on rituals in systemic therapy and pastoral care with special consideration of the gender difference .

Feminist pastoral care

In 1994 Julia Strecker published the article The question behind the question with the subtitle Feminist Pastoral Care - Perspectives in New Land in the journal Schlangenbrut , in which she stated that there is no such thing as a closed pastoral theory of femist pastoral care. She describes the patriarchal orientation of society and the church as a basic religious-sociological assumption of feminist pastoral care : "Women and men do not live on this earth as equal sexes, but our life is shaped by power and structures in which men are still mostly powerful."

In 1998, with Flügel in spite of everything , she and Ursula Pfäfflin presented “the first German-language monograph on feminist pastoral care and counseling”. Their approaches found their way into the EKD report Violence against women as a topic of the church and are included in papers on pastoral theology and pastoral care.

The Protestant theologian and religious educator Angela Volkmann transfers Julia Strecker's approach of feminist pastoral care to feminist-oriented religious education. Feasible ways to develop "a strong female or non-sexist and holistic self-identity" for girls could be developed,

"... when the symbols, the language, the whole context of theological thinking and working are questioned and aligned with the self-determination and truly free development of women."
