Juliaetta is a city in Latah County in Idaho , United States . In the United States Census 2000 , the city had 609 inhabitants.

geography

Juliaetta's geographic coordinates are 46 ° 35 '  N , 116 ° 42'  W (46.577642, −116.707835). The place is about three kilometers north of the Nez Percé reservation. The Potlatch River runs parallel to Idaho State Highway 3 .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of ​​1.8  km² , all of which are land.

Demographics

At the time of the United States Census 2000, Juliaetta lived in 609 people. The population density was 331.2 people per km ². There were 275 housing units at an average of 149.5 per km ². Juliaetta's population was 96.72% White , 2.13% Black or African American , 0.16% Native American , 0% Asian , 0% Pacific Islander , 0% said they were racial , and 0.99% named two or more races. 0.82% of the population declared to be Hispanic or Latinos of any race.

The residents of Juliaetta were distributed across 255 households out of which 25.5% had children under 18 years of age. 56.5% of households were married, 9.8% had a female head of household without a husband, and 31.0% were not families. 27.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 14.5% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.89 people.

history

The settlement was originally named Schupferville after Rupert Scupfer, one of the first settlers in the area. In 1882 the town got its name from its first postmaster , Charles Snyder. He named the city after his two daughters Julia and Etta.

The Bank of Juliaetta is a National Register of Historic Places building on Main Street that was built in 1889 and now houses a restaurant.
