Julian Bashore (born September 4, 1972 in San Francisco ) is an American businessman who has managed the business activities of several Japanese international companies. He is the President or Vice Director of Nippon MacDermid Co., Ltd. and the former Deputy Director of Bodycote Japan KK Bashore is recognized as one of the few Americans who occupy a leading role in the Japanese business sector. As such, he is considered an expert in Japanese business.

Childhood and youth

Bashore was born in San Francisco and grew up in Pennsylvania near Reading (Berks County, Pennsylvania) . There he attended Tulpehocken High School . As a student he was at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also spent a year overseas studying Japanese Language, Culture, Politics and Economics at the Stanford Japan Center at the Kyoto Center for Japanese Studies.

Career

Bashore received the title in 1995 a degree in business and took a job at PPG Industries in, an American manufacturer of coatings and chemicals. There he worked as a sales engineer and supplied paint to Japanese automakers. He worked at PPG for thirteen years, nine of which were in a branch in Nagoya, Japan. In 2007 he accepted a job at Bodycote plc, one of Asia's leading providers of thermal processing services, through a recruiter. When Bodycote became a corporation on March 6, 2008, Bashore became the President of Bodycote Japan. The company hired him to create a base for the company in Japan. He made the unconventional decision to build Bodycote's Japanese office in Nagoya instead of Tokyo , where most international companies have their overseas offices . Bashore viewed Nagoya as the better location because of its central location, easy access for transportation, and lower cost compared to Tokyo. The settlement in Nagoya was a first step in order to be able to offer more cost-effective offers and to focus more sharply on Japanese customers. He was employed in this position at least in part because of his fluency in Japan.

In 2013, he became the chairman or vice director of Nippon MacDermid Co., Ltd. to manage the multi-million dollar business with the American specialty metals maker based in Japan. He was then elected to the Board of Trustees at the annual meeting of the Japan Electronics Packaging and Circuits Association in 2015. Until then, he was the first MacDermid employee to be elected trustee.

In 2016, Bashore became a member of Electroplating Engineers of Japan Ltd., a 50-year-old joint venture between the Tanaka-Kikinzoku Group  and Platform Specialty Products Corporation, which are active in the field of precious metal processing. He stepped down from this position in February 2018 after ownership of the cross-border joint venture was handed back to the Japanese partner as a result of a strategic sale by the American counterpart.
