Julianus Egidius Alphonsus Theresia "Jules" Bogaers (born May 26, 1926 in Cuijk , † September 10, 1996 in Nijmegen ) was a Dutch provincial Roman archaeologist . For more than five decades he was probably the most important researcher on the Limes in the Netherlands.

Jules Bogaers attended Bisschoppelijk College in Roermond until 1944 and then began studying Classical Philology at the University of Nijmegen . There he received his doctorate in 1955 with the thesis De Gallo-Romeinse tempels te Elst in de Over-Betuwe under Josef F. de Waele . Five years later, he completed his habilitation with the text Civitas en stad van de Bataven en Canninefaten . Bogaers initially worked for the Rijksdienst before het Oudheidkundig Bodemonderzoek (ROB) from 1949, before moving to the University of Nijmegen in 1959, where he taught as a professor for the archeology of the Roman provinces until his retirement in 1991. He carried out excavations in Cuijk, Maastricht , Heerlen , Roomburg and Roermond. His most important excavation, however, was the university-sponsored excavation at the Roman camps of Nijmegen .

Bogaers was an internationally recognized capacity in the field of Roman provincial archeology, especially in Limes research. He was particularly interested in epigraphy , but without ignoring the other realities . He was considered a critical mind and a brilliant analyst. He was married with four children and lived with his family in Amersfoort . His brother Pieter Bogaers was Minister for Building and Regional Planning from 1963 to 1966, and Minister for Transport and Waterways for a short time in 1966.
