Shamschurina had her first international success at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 1981 in Schonach in the Black Forest . There she won the bronze medal with the relay. She made her debut in the cross-country skiing world cup in April 1982 in Kiruna , which she finished in 17th place over 5 km. At the beginning of the 1982/83 season she got her first World Cup points in Klingenthal with 11th place over 10 km. In the further course of the season she came under the top ten three times and thus achieved 11th place in the overall World Cup. At the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , she managed 15th place over 20 km, 12th place over 5 km, eighth place over 10 km and fourth place with the relay. After two fourth places at the beginning of the 1984/85 season over 5 km in Val di Sole and in Davos over 10 km, she was ninth over 20 km and seventh over 10 km at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 in Seefeld in Tirol . She finished the season in 12th place in the overall World Cup. At the 1985 Winter Universiade in Belluno , she won the bronze medal over 5 km and 10 km. In her last active season in 1988/89 she came in the top ten in all World Cup competitions and thus achieved eighth place in the overall World Cup. She won her only classic World Cup victory in Davos over 10 km. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1989 , she won the silver medal with the relay. In addition, she was seventh over 15 km classic and fourth over 10 km classic.
Shamshurina won the Soviet championships twice with the relay (1983, 1985) and once each over 5 km (1984) and over 15 km (1989).
