Julio César Giménez , also known as Julio César Jiménez , (born August 24, 1954 in Artigas ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Player career

Midfielder Giménez began playing football at club level at the age of twelve with the Wanderers from Artigas. A year later he was in the squad in the first team. At the age of 14 he played for the first time for the department selection of Artigas and was used in the Campeonato Litoral . He was a member of the Peñarols squad in the Primera División from 1971 to 1978 . He made his debut there in 1971, three months after joining the club's junior team playing in the Quinta División , as a 16-year-old in the professional team. With the Aurinegros he won the Uruguayan championship in 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1978 and the Trofeo Teresa Herrera in 1974 and 1975 . The club from Montevideo also won the Liguilla Pre-Libertadores in this phase in 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1978 . In 1981 and 1982 he played for Ferro Carril Oeste . 1983/84 he was then in Spain with FC Barcelona Atlètic in the Segunda División under contract, but played only four games without his own goal. He spent the season 1987/88 in Argentina with Vélez Sarsfield . He then accepted an offer from Nelson Chabay and joined San Martín de Tucumán . With this team he rose to the primera. In the following first division season he ran 25 times for the club (no goal). In 1992 and 1993 the Club Jorge Wilstermann and Deportivo Municipal were his employers.

National team

Giménez was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed 21 internationals from his debut on October 27, 1971 in a 3-0 win over Chile to his last appearance on November 24, 1976. He scored an international goal. Giménez was part of the Uruguayan squad at the 1974 World Cup . There it was not used in the course of the competition.
