Júlio Tomás Pinto (born April 5, 1974 in Afaloicai / Baguia , Portuguese Timor ) is an East Timorese politician of the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT) . From 2007 to 2015 he was State Secretary for Defense .

Career

Pinto was the third of six children of Thomas da Costa Pinto and Marcelia Amaral. He attended school in Baguia until he graduated in 1993. He then switched to the Faculty of Social and Political Science / Department of Government at the University of Muhamadiyah Madang (UMM) in Jakarta ( Indonesia ). During his time at UMM, he was active in the pro-reform student movement and was involved in actions in Malang and Jakarta, such as the occupation of Indonesia's parliament in 1998, which ultimately led to the overthrow of the Suharto dictatorship . In 1998 Pinto graduated from UMM with a dissertation The role of the National Commission for Human Rights in Enforcing Human Rights in Indonesia: Studying Education and Socialization of Human Rights . From 1999 to 2002 he obtained a Master of Education at the University of Indonesia. The title of his dissertation was: The Mobilization and Demobilization of the FALINTIL : The Struggle for the Independence of East Timor . From October 2001 to April 2002 Pinto was Educational Officer Assistant at UNTAET in Jakarta. In 2002, Pinto obtained a master's degree from the University of the Indonesian Armed Forces . He received a scholarship from the American Ford Foundation for his studies .

After his return to the now independent East Timor, he became a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities at Universidade Dili (UNDIL) from July 2002 to March 2004 . Here Pinto was director of the Centro Investigação Cientifica e Estudos Estratégicos until February 2004 . In March 2004 he became a lecturer at the Universidade da Paz (UNPAZ) and served at the same time as director of the Centro de Estudos e Paz estratégicos (CePAZ) until June 2005 . Between 2005 and 2007, Pinto studied at the National University of Malaysia and received his Ph.D. From August 8, 2007 to February 16, 2015, Pinto was State Secretary for Defense in the East Timorese cabinet . He then became an advisor to President Vicente da Silva Guterres .

From 2011 to 2016 Pinto was the second vice president of the East Timorese Boy Scouts . In 2017 he taught political science at the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL).

In the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2017 Pinto managed to list position 16 of the CNRT of moving into the Parliament , but he resigned on September 6, 2017, the second day of the meeting, his deputy office. In the 2018 parliamentary elections , Pinto no longer ran.
