Julius Bergmann (painter)
Julius Hugo Bergmann (born February 28, 1861 in Nordhausen , † January 15, 1940 in Karlsruhe ) was a German painter .
Life
Bergmann attended the Städelsche Institut in Frankfurt am Main in 1879 , where he became a student of Heinrich Hasselhorst . From 1883 to 1888 he was a student of Gustav Schönleber and Hermann Baisch at the Karlsruhe Art Academy . He then went on study trips to Hungary, Holland, Northern Scotland and the Upper Rhine.
From 1897 to 1903 he taught animal and landscape painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and from 1905 to 1919 animal painting at the Karlsruhe Art Academy. Julius Bergmann was an early member of the German Association of Artists , his name can be found in the membership directory as early as 1906.
Bergmann's motifs were mainly animals and landscapes with personal staffage, including from the Old Rhine near Karlsruhe and studies that he brought back from his travels. He showed his work in numerous national and international exhibitions. At the art exhibition in the Crystal Palace in Sydenham-London in 1887 he was awarded a bronze medal. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, a special exhibition of his works took place in the Kunstverein Karlsruhe in 1921.
