Julius Dittforth (born August 16, 1890 in Nienburg / Weser , † August 14, 1947 in Schkauditz ) was a German plumber , trade union politician , president of the Reichsbahndirektion Erfurt and city ​​councilor ( SPD ) of Erfurt .

Life

Dittforth came from the family of a plumbing business. After attending primary school, he learned the profession of plumber. Since 1905 he was organized in a union. From 1911 Dittforth studied civil engineering in Rostock . After moving to Erfurt he became a railroad worker and joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) in 1915 . In 1920 he took part in the fighting to suppress the Kapp Putsch . From 1924 he was chairman of the general staff representation of the Reichsbahndirektion Erfurt.

After the Nazi regime came to power in 1933, he was arrested for a short time but released again. Dittforth was involved in the resistance against the Nazi state. He was a member of an illegal group of railway unions that was active in Erfurt and the surrounding area. Later he belonged to another resistance group ("Old Kumpane"), which educated former trade unionists about the Nazi regime. After his release from "protective custody" in 1933, Dittforth worked in an engineering office . In 1944 he was called up to do forced labor with the Organization Todt (OT).

In April 1945 he was appointed President of the Reichsbahndirektion Erfurt. As a member of the Federation of Democratic Socialists (BDS) and the SPD, he supported their party building. In 1946 he was elected to the Erfurt city council with her mandate.

In August 1947 he died in a railway accident . A memorial cross for him and another fatally injured railway worker was erected at the accident site on the railway embankment in the Schkauditz location .
