Julius Hess

Julius Hess (born April 16, 1878 in Stuttgart , † July 21, 1957 in Pöcking near Starnberg) was a German painter.

Life

From 1900 to 1903 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1914 he was a co-founder of the Munich New Secession . From 1927 to 1946 Julius Hess was ord. Professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In his master class from 1935 were the painter Karoline Wittmann (1913–1978), Luise Niedermaier (1908–1997), Gabriele Thiersch (1920–2000), Irma Hünerfauth (1907–1998), Marianne Henselmann (1902–2002) met regularly until his death in the Pixisvilla in Pöcking, where Julius Hess painted and lived and discussed their new pictures, even after completing their academy training. Julius Hess was a member of the German Association of Artists . From 1950 Julius Hess became a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts . According to the art historian Matthias Arnold, his painting style is strongly influenced by Paul Cézanne .

Julius Hess died in 1957 on his painter's easel in Pöcking on Lake Starnberg . Julius Hess was adored by his students until the end. Julius Hess is buried in Stuttgart.
